Many major conflicts in the world are fueled by a lack of intercultural understanding. In many cases people don’t take interest in cultures and environments other than their own. Traveling has a great potential of overcoming this problem. PinTail is a compact and personal passive recording device which allows travelers to make most of their time while they are experiencing different surroundings by providing new ways of logging and sharing of encounters. Pintail has the capability of holding a variety modules which can record sound, image and location.
Spring 2008 | A digitally accessible storage solution for tangible media.
“Bookmarking” is one of few habits which is almost as commonly used in digital information organization systems as in physical ones. Luciol was designed to provide a better solution for the storage, accessibility and organization of printed media. It provides an efficient solution to personal or public collections of media by storing all the information you would otherwise store in your memory, in “smart bookmarks”.
Fall 2008 | A desk exploring lightness and invisibility through simplicity.
Blue Desk was designed to “look invisible”. It’s glass drawers allow seeing through the body. It was made out of Baltic Birch plywood, stainless steel and glass. It aims for simplicity as well as sophistication through details.
Fall 2008 | A table with an odd character and odd proportions.
Red Table was constrained to be designed and made in one week. Such a motivation allowed for playfulness and experimentation. The form was developed with the desire to challenge proportions and function. The project was aimed to be more about objects and their personalities than about their function. It was made out of Birdseye Maple and steel.
Spring 2008| Drawer pulls designed and produced with the help of technology.
Tulip drawer pulls were created using prototyping techniques. From early on in the process the form was developed and tweaked in Solidworks. Refinement was done using a z-core printer. After getting a final high resolution SLA print of the form a silicone mold was made. To make the multiples urethane and pigment was used with the mold.
Spring 2008 | A study in using sound and technology to drive form
Music Box’s form was derived from sound waves that the simple mechanism produces. The form was created in Solidworks and printed by a z-core printer. Utilizing technology to make objects which are impossible to craft by hand was one of the main objectives of the project.
Spring 2007 | A bag for the young and creative professionals.
Bodum Bag was designed as a result of a collaboration with Erik Glaser and Jason Howell. Understanding the Bodum brand and the market demographics lead to a contemporary design with a lot of function hidden inside. The design details were sent to a manufacturer in China to be made into a production prototype.
